Types of Leukodystrophies

Leukodystrophies can be classified into different categories: peroxisomal, lysosomal, vacuolating, hypomyelinating, unclassified or undetermined leukodystrophies. This section includes a description of leukodystrophies addressed by the LeukoTreat project i.e.:


- Peroxisomal leukodystrophy: Adrenoleukodystrophy

- Lysosomal leukodystrophies: Metachromatic leukodystrophy and Krabbe disease

- Vacuolating leukodystrophies: Alexander disease, CACH/VWM syndrome and Canavan disease

- Hypomyelinating leukodystrophy: Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease
